As a Senior Backend Engineer, you will play a key role in designing high-performance cloud-native systems, real-time data platforms, and AI-enabled applications while working with cutting-edge technologies across distributed architectures. In this role, you will collaborate with global engineering teams to build reliable, scalable, and future-ready solutions that support Lenovo’s strategic software and services transformation agenda. You will report directly to the Director, Strategic Software Engineering & Site Leader and contribute to driving technical excellence, innovation, and platform growth across the organization.
What You Will Do:
Backend Development & Microservices
- Design, develop, and enhance platform business functionalities based on Product Requirement Documents (PRDs), translating business needs into scalable and reliable technical solutions.
- Build and maintain high-performance backend applications and microservices using Java and Spring ecosystem technologies, ensuring security, stability, and seamless integration across the platform.
Architecture & Data Design
- Design business models, application architectures, and scalable data structures that support current requirements while enabling future growth and platform evolution.
- Collaborate with database teams to design and optimize PostgreSQL schemas, implementing best practices for data integrity, performance, and long-term scalability.
System Reliability & Performance Optimization
- Troubleshoot and resolve platform issues, including service exceptions, interface failures, and production incidents, using logging, monitoring, and debugging tools.
- Perform proactive system maintenance and continuously improve platform reliability, availability, and operational stability across critical services.
- Analyze and optimize application performance through code refactoring, database tuning, and middleware optimization, including technologies such as RabbitMQ and Redis.
AI & Emerging Technologies
- Support the integration of AI/ML services, inference APIs, and LLM-powered workflows into enterprise applications, leveraging REST/gRPC integration patterns and contributing to solutions utilizing modern AI infrastructure, with exposure to NVIDIA AI technologies (NIMs, Triton Inference Server, Metropolis, DeepStream) considered a strong advantage.
What You Will Bring:
- Bachelor’s degree or higher in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Information Technology, or a related technical field.
- 8+ years of proven software engineering experience, including 5+ years building high-scale distributed systems and cloud-native applications.
- Strong expertise in Java development, including multithreading, collections framework, JVM tuning, performance optimization, and backend best practices.
- Hands-on experience designing and developing enterprise applications using Spring Boot, Spring Cloud, and microservices architectures.
- Advanced knowledge of PostgreSQL, RabbitMQ, Redis, Docker, Kubernetes, and modern backend infrastructure technologies.
- Experience designing real-time event-driven architectures, streaming data pipelines, and messaging platforms, with knowledge of Kafka, MQTT, or similar technologies considered an advantage.
- Proven ability to integrate enterprise platforms, third-party APIs, operational systems, and large-scale telemetry, sensor, IoT, or event data into unified backend services.
- Experience with CI/CD pipelines, DevOps practices, AI-assisted development tools, and preferably exposure to video metadata pipelines, computer vision solutions, or AI-generated event data, combined with strong problem-solving, learning agility, and teamwork skills.
