AI Data Science Software Developer (2-Year Fixed-Term, Hybrid Opportunity)
Description
Stanford University, Department of Medicine, is seeking a Software Developer 2 to build AI research tools for the NHLBI AI Data Science Center. Develop reproducible agentic AI workflows for biomedical and clinical research data. Lead the implementation of research software integrations and deployment workflows, working alongside researchers, clinicians, and engineers to turn emerging AI capabilities into practical software that advances research in heart, lung, blood, and sleep health. Design and deploy robust cloud and on-premises system integrations, incorporating private network topologies, secure credential management, and identity controls.
This is a 2 year fixed-term, hybrid opportunity.
Desired Qualifications:
- Experience with secure research platforms such as Terra/All of Us, Terra-Azure, Seven Bridges/Velsera, DNAnexus, Stanford Carina, or other trusted research environments.
- Working knowledge of cloud-private connectivity patterns such as VPC Service Controls, Private Service Connect, PrivateLink, VNet private endpoints, customer-managed encryption keys, and cloud audit logs.
- Experience with compliance-oriented software delivery, including SBOMs, signed artifacts, provenance checks, locked dependencies, synthetic-only test data, and reviewer-facing evidence packages.
- Experience with agentic coding systems or AI-enabled developer tooling, including model routing, MCP servers, SKILL.md-style packaging, deterministic fake providers, replayable session logs, and human-in-the-loop approval flows.
- Experience in healthcare, biomedical research, or regulated-data engineering where correctness, reproducibility, auditability, and data-boundary enforcement are core product requirements.
Core Duties:
Conceptualize design, implement, and develop solutions for complex systems/programs.
Work with a variety of users to gain information, and develop intra-system tradeoffs between different users, as necessary; interact with a diverse client base and outside vendor contacts.
