Analyst, Warehouse Systems & Logistics Technology
Description
The Analyst, Warehouse Systems & Logistics Technology serves as the critical bridge between distribution operations, supply chain engineering, and IT infrastructure across the parts distribution center (PDC) network. This role goes beyond routine support: it is responsible for architecting technical solutions, optimizing inventory movement, automating reporting ecosystems, and ensuring continuous platform availability.
The ideal candidate blends strong technical acumen—including SQL data modeling, scripting, and system integration—with functional domain expertise in inbound/outbound warehouse logistics, material flow, and hardware infrastructure.
Core Areas of Knowledge & Technical Scope:
- WMS Platforms: Deep functional and technical knowledge of proprietary and Tier-1 WMS applications (DView, Manhattan, Blue Yonder, SAP EWM, or equivalent).
- Data Engineering & Scripting: Advanced SQL (DDL/DML, complex joins, CTEs, stored procedures, query optimization) and scripting (JavaScript, Python) for workflow automation and API middleware.
- Systems Architecture: Upstream Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) and downstream Warehouse Execution/Control Systems (WCS/WES), EDI message sets (e.g., 856, 940, 945), REST/SOAP APIs, message queues, and database architecture.
- Warehouse Infrastructure: Industrial RF scanners, vehicle-mounted terminals (VMTs), thermal label engines (ZPL/EPL), automated storage and retrieval systems (ASRS), and ruggedized Android/Windows mobile devices.
Key Responsibilities & Functions:
System Architecture, Enhancements & Business Analysis (Standard & Advanced)
- Translate complex operational pain points into detailed Technical Requirements Documents, Functional Specifications, user stories, and process flowcharts.
- Partner with enterprise IT, database administrators, and third-party vendors to prioritize enhancement backlogs, design scalable logic, and review codebase modifications.
- Oversee end-to-end Quality Assurance (QA) and User Acceptance Testing (UAT), including the authoring of comprehensive test plans, edge-case scenarios, and regression scripts.
- Drive continuous modernization projects, evaluating automation opportunities such as autonomous mobile robots (AMRs), pick-to-light/put-wall integrations, and modern cloud migrations.
Network Operations, PDC Support & Reliability Engineering
- Act as escalation authority for critical PDC operational incidents across the 24/7 distribution network, conducting rapid root-cause analyses (RCA) and deploying corrective patches.
- Oversee operational continuity across critical warehouse functions: receiving, automated putaway, bin location logic, dynamic slotting, wave management, pick/pack/ship routing, inventory reconciliation, and outbound staging.
- Maintain system observability, setting up automated alert mechanisms and performance telemetry to detect integration bottlenecks, deadlocks, and hung batch jobs.
- Lead disaster recovery and fallback procedures for network or server downtime, ensuring minimal disruptions to shipping Service Level Agreements (SLAs).
Analytics, Reporting & Process Automation
- Architect, develop, and maintain enterprise operational dashboards using modern BI stacks (Power BI, Tableau, Streamlit) integrated directly with WMS relational databases.
- Write SQL queries to monitor network-wide Key Performance Indicators (KPIs), such as lines picked per hour, order turnaround time, cycle count precision, Carlisle productivity metrics, and shipping accuracy.
- Build automated scripts (Python, JavaScript, or PowerShell) to eliminate repetitive manual reporting and reconcile systemic discrepancies between ERP host records and physical inventory.
Field Implementation, Governance & Operational Audits
- Lead on-site operational reviews, system implementations, and annual technical audits across regional PDCs to evaluate system adoption, hardware health, and procedural compliance.
- Create and govern enterprise Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), knowledge-base repositories, and role-based training programs for PDC supervisors, inventory control leads, and floor operators.
- Conduct post-implementation reviews to benchmark operational improvements against projected ROI and engineering targets.
