Identify opportunities to develop and improve building specification standards from a structural, civil, fire and building methodology perspective.

Work closely with the M&E, Refrigeration and Store Equipment technical teams to ensure specifications are optimised across all disciplines, free from clashes and compliant with regulatory requirements.

Drive innovation, identify opportunities and provide technical solutions to engineering challenges, whilst maintaining focus on sustainability and commercial efficiency.

Partner with the feasibility team, external partners and the Cost Management team to assess viability, identify engineering constraints, support design briefs and tender documentation, and contribute to value engineering.

Review the output of external Design Teams and Contractors, provide subject matter expertise on complex engineering challenges, and support acquisitions, legal, construction and FM teams with technical due diligence and engineering guidance.

What You Will Be

Your skills and experience will include:

  • An experienced engineering, construction or property professional with a proven track record of delivering complex fit out projects.

A technical expert who can challenge engineering solutions in an articulate, well-reasoned and commercially focused way to achieve business goals.

A collaborative stakeholder manager, comfortable working with structural engineers, architects, contractors, consultants, procurement teams and wider business functions.

Passionate about sustainability and ensuring specifications support operational and embodied carbon targets, whole-life carbon considerations and regulatory requirements.

Organised and process-driven, with the ability to manage multiple priorities whilst delivering timely technical support and approvals.

A strong communicator and influencer, capable of building relationships, maintaining supplier performance and providing technical direction across a diverse retail estate.

What You Will Bring:

Experience delivering complex fit out projects and ideally client-side experience writing and maintaining technical specifications.

Fire, Health and Safety and Building Regulations expertise, including detailed knowledge of the Building Safety Act 2022 and CDM 2015.

A recognised engineering degree in civil or structural engineering, building surveying qualification, or equivalent industry experience.

Experience in technical due diligence, working with property legal teams, and a strong commercial understanding including NEC and JCT contracts.

A good understanding of retail engineering, along with strong organisational, interpersonal and influencing skills.
