Estimator – Commercial & Institutional Construction
Location: Salem, MA
Our client, a well-established Salem, Massachusetts–based general contractor, is seeking an experienced Estimator to support commercial and institutional construction projects throughout the region.
The Estimator will be responsible for preparing accurate and timely estimates, with the ability to fully interpret construction documents including specifications, drawings, legends, and equipment schedules across multiple document phases (schematic, permit, and construction sets). This role requires a self-motivated, highly organized professional who thrives in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment and can work both collaboratively and independently on smaller projects with oversight.
The ideal candidate is a strong communicator, detail-oriented, and capable of managing multiple priorities simultaneously.
Responsibilities
- Read and interpret Architectural, Civil, and Structural drawings
- Generate detailed quantity surveys and take-offs using On-Screen Takeoff and similar tools
- Estimate materials, labor, and overall project budgets for commercial and institutional projects
- Develop and maintain strong working relationships with subcontractors, fellow estimators, architects, and owners
- Meet deadlines while delivering accurate and competitive estimates
- Support the Project Management team by assisting with RFIs and submittals during the construction phase
- Attend on-site pre-bid walk-throughs and project meetings as required
Qualifications
- Experience with Procore, Microsoft Outlook, Excel, Word, On-Screen Takeoff, Timberline, Bluebeam, and other estimating software
- Proficiency in digital takeoff software strongly preferred
- Exceptional organizational skills and attention to detail
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Excellent time management and prioritization abilities
