Data Analyst Intern (Winter/January 2027, 12 Months)
Description
Who we are:
Who you are:
We are always looking for amazing talent who can contribute to our growth and deliver results! Geotab is seeking a Data Governance & Operations Data Analyst Intern to help keep the company's most important data accurate, trusted and easy to use. You will work with large datasets to find patterns, check quality and answer business questions. If you love technology, and are keen to join an industry leader, we would love to hear from you!
What you'll do:
The Global Data Operations & Governance (GDOG) team owns the certified metrics, scheduled data pipelines and data standards that teams across Geotab rely on. As an intern you will help build, check and maintain those data assets using SQL and statistical tools. On a typical day you will work closely with your manager and a team member who guides your focus area, alongside the other interns on the team and partner teams across the business. The successful candidate is an analytical problem solver who enjoys diving into data, is excited about investigations, can multi-task, and can credibly interface between technical teams and others.
The opportunity:
- 12-month work-term beginning January 2027.
- Full-time, paid internship: Monday - Friday, 37.5hrs/week.
- Your first week at Geotab begins with 'GEO Launch' - a one-week Employee Orientation. Click here to learn more!
- Learn more about the Geotab Campus Program here.
- This posting is for an existing vacancy.
How you'll make an impact:
- Work with the GDOG team and partner teams (such as Revenue Operations, Finance and Marketing) to deliver accurate, consistent data.
- Use AI coding assistants (such as Claude Code or Codex) every day to write and review SQL and Python, build reports, automate data quality checks and pipeline monitoring, and draft documentation, then check and own what they produce.
- Check data quality at every stage: sourcing, collection, normalization and transformation. Reconcile numbers between systems and explain any gaps.
- Help monitor scheduled data pipelines, investigate failures and document the cause and fix.
- Help apply data standards: table and column descriptions, labels, and documentation so data is easy to find and trust.
- Build and maintain reports and dashboards in Superset and Google Sheets so teams can answer their own questions.
- Take on focused analysis projects assigned by your manager, and present findings to the team.
- Provide leaders with clear, reliable insight to support data-driven decisions.
What you'll bring to the role:
- Degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics, or a related field of study in progress.
- Some experience as a Data Analyst or pursuing a career path in Data Analytics/Data Science.
- Technical experience using SQL, Python or Google BigQuery is required.
- Demonstrated hands-on experience using AI coding assistants such as Claude Code or Codex to build real work (for example analyses, scripts, automations or dashboards). Be ready to show examples and explain how you directed the tool and verified its output.
- Good judgment with AI-generated work: you test results, catch errors and never ship output you cannot explain.
- Experience applying Large Language Models (e.g., Gemini, Claude) to analyze unstructured data and to speed up documentation and analysis.
- Experience, or a strong track record of experimenting, with AI agents and agentic workflows to automate tasks like data quality checks, monitoring and reporting.
- Knowledge of data warehousing, data modeling, statistical analysis, reporting, and data analysis.
- Attention to detail and comfort checking your own work and other people's numbers.
- Some knowledge of data visualization tools (e.g. Superset, Tableau).
- Strong communication, organization, analytical, and time management skills, as well as a willingness to learn and a strong work ethic.
- Technical competence using software programs, including but not limited to, Google Suite for business (Sheets, Docs, Slides).
- Experience developing machine learning models is an asset.
