Design Creative Lead
Description
About the Role
We're looking for a Design Creative Lead who's equal parts art director, designer and leader. Someone with exceptional taste, strong opinions and the creative judgement to back them up. You'll be a player-coach: raise the bar, develop strong talent, and still get into the work yourself. At MoneyGram, everyone is an IC.
You'll own how MoneyGram looks, sounds and feels everywhere it shows up. Right now, that work is spread across teams and external partners. We want one person with genuine taste and a clear creative point of view to own it end to end and set the visual standard across all of it. You'll have the freedom to make bold creative calls and the responsibility to see them through. We're not hiring you to simply maintain the brand. We're hiring you to make it impossible to ignore. Retail, CRM and digital channels will be your core focus, but your creative thinking will extend across the wider business.
This isn't a role where you'll just direct the work and sign it off. You'll spend as much time designing as you do leading the team. One day might mean developing a new visual direction, the next designing retail assets, refining a template or getting into the detail of a piece of work that needs your eye. Working closely with Creative Operations and the Performance Creative Lead, you'll help make sure great design gets made, delivered and shared. Not just once, but in ways others can use and build on.
If you have an eye that misses nothing, a point of view worth defending and the drive to make everything and everyone around you better, you're our person!
What success looks like within a year: Stronger design craft and a team producing consistently better work. Established brand guardrails, templates and shared assets that make great design easier to create, find and scale across the business.
How You'll Make an Impact
Set the creative bar. Bring a point of view. Challenge the concept, sharpen the visual direction and get into the details others miss. Make the work impossible to ignore.
Make the brand unmistakable. Evolve MoneyGram's visual identity, guidelines and design language. Push how the brand shows up without losing what makes it recognizable and trusted.
Lead a team that gets better. Coach designers, set expectations and give feedback they can use. Don't just fix the work; build a team that can solve the next brief without you.
Stay in the work. Spend half your time designing and art directing. Own retail projects, step into complex briefs and make the work that shows the team what good looks like.
Design for where it lives. A retail counter isn't an email. An email isn't a digital ad. Know what works in each and make the brand recognizable across all three.
Build systems people actually use. Guidelines, toolkits and templates should make the work better and faster, not make everything look the same. Build them, test them and keep improving them.
Make the work easy to find. Bring assets and templates out of silos. Improve how the business finds, shares and reuses approved creative, building towards a more accessible asset library.
Direct the wider work. Give agencies and freelancers a clear brief and a high standard. Challenge the thinking, not just the execution, and own the finished result.
Put AI to work. Use it to explore creative directions, create and adapt assets, and move faster without losing craft. Know when human judgement makes the difference.
Get the work finished. Work with Creative Operations and the Performance Creative Lead to balance ambition with capacity. Make the decisions that keep work moving and quality high.
What You'll Bring
8+ years in creative. You've led creative work, developed teams and made decisions that shaped brands. Show us the standard you've set and what improved under your leadership.
A portfolio with a point of view. Bring the work and the thinking behind it. Show us the ideas you've shaped, what you personally designed or art directed and why those creative decisions mattered.
An eye for the details others miss. Typography, composition, colour, layout and art direction. You can tell when something isn't right, and you know how to fix it.
Ideas, not just execution. You've turned briefs into concepts worth making. Show us how you got from a problem or insight to an idea, then made it real.
A team you've led and developed. Direct people management, not just mentoring. You've hired, coached, managed performance and handled difficult conversations. Tell us who got better under you.
Creative that works where it lives. You've made work for retail, CRM and digital channels. You understand the spaces, audiences and constraints, not just the file formats.
A brand you've helped shape. You've evolved visual identities and made them work across different touchpoints. Built brand guidelines, design systems or templates from scratch? Even better. Show us what changed.
Work you've made yourself. You can still design, art direct and deliver. Bring examples of your own hands-on work, not just decks of what your team produced.
Real use of AI creative tools. You've made things with them, improved workflows and know when human judgement makes the difference. Show us what you've built.
Tools you know inside out. Figma and Adobe Creative Cloud. Motion design, storyboarding or other specialist craft skills are a plus.
Conviction without ego. You have opinions, can explain them and know when to change your mind. You make clear calls, take feedback and bring others with you.
