SUMMARY

  • Position Summary

We are seeking an Electrical Infrastructure Engineer / Technical Specialist with 5-7 years of experience in electrical power distribution, utility infrastructure, and commercial or industrial facilities. This position will independently conduct electrical infrastructure assessments, evaluate utility power availability and facility capacity, and prepare client-ready technical reports supporting data center and mission-critical site evaluations.

The ideal candidate will have practical knowledge of medium- and low-voltage electrical systems, the ability to interpret electrical drawings and identify capacity or equipment limitations, and experience conducting field assessments with minimal supervision.

This is primarily a technical assessment and due diligence role rather than a traditional electrical engineering design position. Data center experience is preferred but not required for candidates with a strong electrical power systems and facility assessment background.

    Key Responsibilities

    Electrical Infrastructure and Site Assessments

    • Conduct electrical infrastructure assessments of commercial, industrial, and mission-critical facilities.
    • Evaluate medium- and low-voltage electrical distribution systems and equipment, including switchgear, switchboards, transformers, circuit breakers, panelboards, and feeders.
    • Review single-line diagrams, equipment drawings, schematics, specifications, and other technical documentation.
    • Assess equipment ratings, existing loads, system capacity, infrastructure condition, and potential limitations.
    • Conduct facility site visits and visual equipment inspections.
    • Identify deficiencies, capacity constraints, equipment limitations, and areas requiring additional engineering evaluation.

    Utility Power and Capacity Evaluations

    • Review utility service arrangements, distribution infrastructure, service voltages, existing demand, and available electrical capacity.
    • Assess utility power availability and the feasibility of serving proposed data center or other high-demand loads.
    • Review utility correspondence, capacity information, service documentation, and preliminary interconnection requirements.
    • Coordinate with utility representatives, engineering teams, clients, and other stakeholders to obtain and evaluate electrical infrastructure information.

    Data Center and Mission-Critical Evaluations

    • Conduct technical due diligence and site suitability assessments for existing facilities and prospective data center locations.
    • Evaluate electrical infrastructure readiness, including available power, distribution capacity, equipment suitability, redundancy, and future capacity.
    • Evaluate mission-critical equipment such as UPS systems, standby generators, automatic transfer switches, and redundant electrical distribution systems.
    • Apply a working understanding of IT loads, critical power distribution, cooling-related electrical loads, and future capacity requirements.
    • Identify potential infrastructure improvements or upgrades required to support proposed operations.

    Technical Reporting and Communication

    • Prepare professional, client-ready electrical infrastructure assessment reports.
    • Document existing conditions, equipment configurations, utility service arrangements, deficiencies, capacity limitations, and potential risks.
    • Develop technically supported findings and recommendations, including potential improvements and areas requiring further engineering investigation.
    • Prepare supporting documentation such as equipment inventories, photographs, drawing references, and technical assessment summaries.
    • Communicate findings and recommendations to clients, project managers, and multidisciplinary technical teams.
    • Coordinate with senior engineers as appropriate for technical review and quality assurance.
    • Apply working knowledge of applicable NEC/NFPA 70 requirements and relevant IEEE standards.

    Minimum Qualifications

    • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or Electrical Engineering Technology from an accredited institution.
    • 5-7 years of relevant experience with electrical power distribution systems, utility infrastructure, industrial electrical systems, or facility electrical assessments.
    • Demonstrated ability to independently conduct facility assessments, technical site inspections, or similar evaluations.
    • Experience preparing professional technical reports documenting existing conditions, findings, deficiencies, and recommendations.
    • Practical knowledge of medium- and low-voltage electrical equipment and power distribution systems.
    • Ability to read and interpret single-line diagrams, equipment drawings, electrical schematics, and technical specifications.
    • Understanding of electrical power distribution from utility service through facility infrastructure.
    • General understanding of utility service capacity, power allocations, facility demand, and electrical infrastructure limitations.
    • Working knowledge of applicable NEC requirements and familiarity with relevant IEEE standards.
    • Strong analytical, technical writing, communication, and problem-solving skills.
    • Ability to organize and complete site assessment and reporting assignments within established project schedules.

    Preferred Qualifications

    • Experience with electrical infrastructure due diligence, facility condition assessments, or site suitability evaluations.
    • Experience with commercial, industrial, data center, utility, or other mission-critical facilities.
    • Familiarity with UPS systems, generators, ATS equipment, redundant power configurations, data center power requirements, and cooling infrastructure.
    • Familiarity with power system studies such as load flow, short-circuit, protective device coordination, and arc flash analysis.
    • Exposure to ETAP, SKM PowerTools, or EasyPower.
    • Experience coordinating with electric utilities regarding service capacity, power availability, or interconnection requirements.
    • Engineer-in-Training (EIT) certification is preferred but not required.

    Travel Requirements

    • Approximately 30-40% travel to commercial, industrial, and prospective data center facilities.
    • Travel requirements will vary based on project schedules and may periodically exceed 40%.
    • Overnight travel may be required.
    • Candidates must be comfortable working in active commercial and industrial environments and following applicable site safety requirements.
