Full-Time Roving Substitute Teacher (K-8)
Description
Job Description / Essential Elements
Yavneh Hebrew Academy, a private Jewish K–8 school in Los Angeles, CA seeks a full-time Roving Substitute Teacher for the 2026–27 school year. This is a salaried, on-campus position: you report every school day and cover classes across Kindergarten through 8th grade wherever you are needed.
On a given day you might lead a 1st-grade reading block, a 6th-grade science lab and a middle school math class. You become a familiar face to students and faculty, which keeps learning on track when a teacher is out. On days with no absences, you support classrooms, small groups and campus duties.
This role suits a flexible, warm educator who enjoys variety and wants to grow within our community.
Responsibilities
- Cover K–8 classes as assigned each morning, including homerooms, core subjects and specials such as PE, art, music, STEAM and media lab.
- Deliver the classroom teacher's lesson plans faithfully, keep students engaged and leave clear notes on what was covered, student work and any concerns.
- Maintain a calm, respectful classroom using the school's behavior expectations and community values.
- Take attendance and follow all safety, health and emergency procedures.
- Supervise students during arrival, dismissal, lunch, recess, transitions, and assemblies.
- Support small groups, co-teach or assist classrooms on days without a coverage assignment.
- Communicate promptly with teachers, administration and the front office about schedule changes or student needs.
- Take part in faculty meetings, professional development and school events as appropriate.
- Keep student information confidential.
Qualifications
Required
- Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university
- Experience working with children in a school, camp, tutoring or similar setting
- Comfort teaching students of all ages, from kindergartners to 8th graders
- Strong classroom management and clear communication
- Flexibility to change assignments, sometimes with little notice
- Reliable, punctual attendance
- Successful background check and fingerprint clearance
- Ability to stand, walk and move around campus throughout the day
Preferred
- Teaching credential or progress toward one
- Classroom teaching or substitute experience in elementary or middle school
- Training in early childhood, literacy, math or special education
- CPR and first aid certification
