Fullstack Prototyping Engineer

Discussion

Description

How could technology shape the future relationship between farmers and advisors? That is the question our small, customer-facing Innovation team is exploring. As a Full-Stack Prototyping Engineer, you turn early ideas into working prototypes and put them in the hands of farmers and advisors to learn what really works.

You enjoy moving quickly, experimenting and learning through doing. Rather than spending months polishing a concept, you build something tangible within days. You bring together front-end, back-end, AI components and data sources to test ideas in real-life farming environments. Some ideas will prove valuable; others will be stopped. Both outcomes are an important part of the process.

Your main responsibilities include:

  • Turn early-stage ideas into working prototypes, from a first concept to something farmers and advisors can interact with.
  • Build full-stack applications using React, TypeScript and Next.js, connecting front-end experiences with back-end services, APIs, AI components and data sources.
  • Work with Azure SQL and contribute to deploying and running applications on Azure Kubernetes Service (AKS), using tools such as Terraform and GitLab CI.
  • Work directly with farmers and advisors to test prototypes in realistic situations, gather feedback and translate observations into improvements or new hypotheses.
  • Make pragmatic technical and design decisions, while ensuring that prototypes have the necessary foundations for security, monitoring and reliability.
  • Share insights and validated concepts with the teams responsible for further development and scaling.

You are a hands-on builder who enjoys turning uncertainty into something tangible. You are comfortable experimenting, learning as you go and letting go of ideas or code when they no longer serve the purpose. You do not need to meet every requirement listed below. If your experience and strengths match the role in other ways, we encourage you to apply.

You bring:

  • A relevant bachelor’s or master’s degree in Software Engineering, Computer Science or a related field.
  • Experience in software development, with solid hands-on experience in React. Knowledge of TypeScript and Next.js is an advantage.
  • Experience working across the full stack, preferably with relational databases such as Azure SQL or SQL Server.
  • An understanding of cloud environments and deployment practices. Familiarity with Azure Kubernetes Service (AKS), Terraform and GitLab CI is a plus.
  • An awareness of software security and application reliability, including authentication, secrets management, security scans, logging and monitoring.
  • A pragmatic, experimental mindset, a strong sense of user experience and the ability to work directly with users. You enjoy taking initiative, learning from feedback and have a genuine interest in agriculture.
  • Experience with side projects, start-ups or building something from the ground up is particularly valuable. We are interested in what you have made, what you have learned and how you approach new challenges, not just the technologies or frameworks on your CV.

Working at Lely means contributing to sustainable progress within one of the most innovative organizations in the Netherlands. You help make the agricultural sector more futureproof, and we ensure you have the space, resources, and support to do so.

  • An international work environment that values collaboration, initiative, and diverse perspectives.
  • A culture that encourages learning, experimentation, and ownership of ideas.
  • Excellent employment conditions, including up to 8 weeks of vacation per year and a strong pension scheme.
  • A Junior salary range of €4,200 - €6,000 gross per month and a Medior salary range of €5,000 - €7,150 per month, with clear opportunities for growth within the scale.
  • Full ownership of your own development, with access to a wide range of courses through the Lely Academy.
  • Daily access to outstanding sports facilities at the Lely Campus: an indoor gym, outdoor padel courts, basketball and volleyball courts, table tennis, and table football. You can join Hyrox workouts or sign up for personal training and challenge your colleagues during an active break.
  • Fresh coffee and tea from our own barista (with milk from our own farm) and a healthy, affordable company restaurant.
  • A healthy work-life balance thanks to our hybrid working policy: you work at least three days a week on Campus, with flexible hours and plenty of opportunity to spend additional time onsite (between 06:00 and 20:00).
  • A free shuttle bus that takes you to and from the metro station in Maassluis, ensuring your workday starts and ends smoothly.
  • And of course: we love to celebrate! Whether it’s an anniversary or the annual Christmas party. At Lely, we know how to do it.

We are also proud that our vision and efforts have been recognized with the Rotterdam Entrepreneurs Award 2025.
