Hardware Development Engineer, Amazon Key
Posted Updated
Description
Amazon Key is hiring a Hardware Engineer to own major mechanical subsystems of our outdoor security and access-control hardware, from first concept through mass production. You will design enclosures, structures, and mechanisms that have to survive wind, weather, vibration, and tampering. You will prove those designs in the lab, and you will drive suppliers and contract manufacturers through tooling and production ramp.
Key job responsibilities
- Own the mechanical design of enclosures, structures, mounts, hinges, latches, and mechanisms for outdoor security and access-control products, from space claims through released drawings.
- Define mechanical requirements together with product, systems, and industrial design. These cover loads, ingress protection, environmental conditions, impact, tamper resistance, installation, and serviceability.
- Select materials and processes, and explain the trade-offs in cost, durability, UV and corrosion resistance, and supplier capability.
- Design thermal solutions for sealed outdoor enclosures that hold electronics, lithium batteries, and solar charge hardware.
- Design structures and mechanisms that carry wind, vibration, and transport loads, such as masts, brackets, and heavy mounts.
