Description

POSITION: Indian Education Cultural Resource Specialist Paraprofessional

SUMMARY: Onamia Public Schools is seeking a dynamic and highly energetic individual for the position of Indian Education Cultural Resource Specialist Paraprofessional. The Indian Education Cultural Resource Specialist Paraprofessional supports the Director of American Indian Education in providing culturally responsive educational experiences grounded in Ojibwe language, Anishinaabe culture, history, and seasonal lifeways. The position assists with the planning, coordination, preparation, transportation, inventory, maintenance, and implementation of seasonal cultural programming while providing direct support to Anishinaabe (American Indian) students, staff, and community partners.

The Indian Education Cultural Resource Specialist Paraprofessional is a highly specialized position requiring expertise that is not readily available in the general labor market. Unlike a traditional paraprofessional, this position demands demonstrated knowledge of Anishinaabe cultural lifeways, seasonal harvesting practices, traditional arts, outdoor education, community protocols, youth mentorship, equipment management, and culturally responsive instructional support. Many of these competencies are developed through years of community participation, intergenerational teaching, and lived cultural experience rather than through conventional postsecondary education.

The position serves as a cultural mentor and educational support professional by helping facilitate authentic learning experiences that strengthen students' cultural identity, community relationships, leadership skills, and academic engagement.

A list of essential duties and responsibilities is available upon request.
