Description

At the International Finance Corporation (IFC), a member of the World Bank Group (WBG), you’ll join a diverse, global community working across cultures, disciplines, and borders to address the world’s most pressing development challenges. With 1.2 billion young people reaching working age in the decade ahead, the challenge of job creation has never been greater. Through partnerships across 145 countries and more than 182 offices worldwide, we work with governments, private sector, development partners and other stakeholders to invest in people, strengthen markets, and deliver scalable, data-driven solutions that generate more and better jobs and improve lives. In fiscal year 2026, IFC committed a record $105.6 billion to private companies and financial institutions in developing countries. For more information, visit www.ifc.org. The Trade and Supply Chain Department (CTS) is one of the industry groups at IFC, with both investment and advisory services delivered to IFC’s clients through IFC’s global network. CTS is a significant contributor to IFC overall program as its commitments represent about 24% of IFC’s total (long-term and short-term) annual commitments. As the CTS program continues to grow organically and through the introduction of new programs and products to be deployed globally, our department is seeking a highly motivated and proactive investment officer driven by IFC's key priorities that can contribute to such growth and product design and deployment. Global trade is an engine of growth that creates jobs, reduces poverty, and increases economic opportunities. It is a key driver of integration and opportunities for local enterprises in emerging markets and developing countries. Financing trade is fundamental to the movement of goods at all stages of the supply chain and can have a strong development impact in developing countries. CTS provides an opportunity for Investment staff to have exposure to a wide variety of financial products and programs, including partial guarantees, risk-sharing facilities, loans, warehouse financing and other structured products to support trade in emerging markets. The selected candidate would lead projects covering the CTS broad network of Financial Institutions (including top global banks such as Citibank, HSBC, Caixa, JP Morgan) and Corporates: CTS has supported more than 400 financial institutions and thousands of underlying companies in more than 100 countries across all regions of the globe). To date, IFC’s Trade and Supply Chain Finance has supported over $230 billion in global trade, all of which is directly linked to the movement of specific goods across emerging market borders. CTS is seeking an Investment Officer responsible for leading the implementation and monitoring of Trade Portfolio Solutions projects (including Global Trade Liquidity Program (GTLP)). The Investment Officer will be based in Washington, DC. This recruitment process will be used to fill two positions. Duties and Accountabilities: The Investment Officer will be responsible for developing and executing Trade Portfolio Solutions transactions. As IFC’s CTS works collaboratively with groups from across the organization, including financial institutions, manufacturing and infrastructure teams, the Investment Officer will be responsible for leading and coordinating the activities of multidisciplinary teams across regions through all stages of the business from origination through all approval processes and portfolio management. The Investment Officer will also be responsible for managing client relationships with project counterparties to deliver results according to client and market needs under fast-moving circumstances. The Investment Officer is expected to: • Business Development: Together with Industry Investment Officers, Trade Finance Officers, and regional staff, originate and assess opportunities, identify bankable projects in target regions, particularly IDA countries, grow and develop new business transactions. Develop and guide teams in the preparation of pitchbooks and client proposals in support of new business; • Structuring and Negotiation: Lead the structuring of complex facilities according to in-depth knowledge, understanding, and assessment of sectors, clients, securities and country risks. Negotiate terms with clients, internal and external stakeholders and partners, including senior management of IFC and clients (CEO, CFO). Prepare client/partner presentations and support their decision-making at key transaction stages; • Deal Execution: Lead transaction team from initiation, due diligence to internal approvals, processing of transactional and structured trade facilities, actively handling key responsibilities and directing and coordinating work of other team members from multiple departments. Take responsibility and accountability for transaction-related decisions and relationships, including with IFC approvers (credit, RIMs, RIDs, RVPs); • Transaction Management: Deliver all transactions and accountabilities of the role efficiently, on a timely and expeditious basis and using best practice standards. Ensure that defined transactional requirements recorded in the documentation are executed accordingly. Monitor the portfolio and report development results internally and externally; and • Mentor, train and coach the activities of trade analysts and junior CTS staff, provide expert advice, and share experiences.
