As a freelance COBOL Developer, you can contribute as a key technical expert in legacy systems, participate in modernization projects, or provide long-term support for business-critical applications.

Key Responsibilities:
Develop and maintain COBOL programs (both online and batch, using structured, goto-less programming).
Manage and execute jobs using JCL job scheduling.
Work with Easytrieve and the ASF output system to generate reports and outputs.
Handle file management using VSAM and GDG file systems.
Conduct unit and integration testing, ensuring accuracy and performance.
Use IBM Debug Tool and Dumpmaster for troubleshooting and diagnostics.
Collaborate with teams via Attachmate Extra! emulator and Jira.
Create and maintain technical and functional design documentation.
Operate within Agile or Waterfall methodologies depending on the project.
Preferred Experience (Nice to Have):
Experience with IMS DBMS (PCB, PSB, DL/1) – highly valued but not mandatory.
Familiarity with DevOps environments and deployment automation.
Background in sectors such as banking, government, or logistics where mainframe systems remain critical.
Requirements:
Proven experience as a COBOL Developer, ideally in enterprise-level environments.
Solid knowledge of JCL, VSAM, Easytrieve, and debugging tools.
Ability to work independently and collaboratively in distributed teams.
Strong attention to detail, problem-solving skills, and documentation practices.
Fluent in English with effective communication skills.
