MECHANIC-SHERIFF

DEPARTMENT: Elkhart County Sheriff's Office

HIRING RANGE: $30.36-$33.73/hour based on education and position related experience. Longevity pay after 3 years.

POSITION TO BE FILLED: ASAP

HOURS & DAYS OF WORK: Monday-Friday, 40 hrs/week

LOCATION OF POSITION: Correctional Facility Campus-Elkhart

TRAVEL REQUIREMENTS: Within County (please complete driving page on application)

JOB SUMMARY:
Responsible for providing service and maintenance for Department vehicles.

JOB REQUIREMENTS:
• High school diploma or GED with 2-5 years of previous mechanic experience preferred
• Working knowledge of Department trucks, vehicles, and equipment, with ability to analyze and diagnose causes of mechanical/electrical malfunctions and drivability/safety issues and complete related maintenance and safety measures
• Ability to operate a variety of machinery, equipment, and tools in performance of duties
• Ability to work alone with minimum supervision and with others in a team environment
• Ability to count, compute, calculate, and perform arithmetic operations
• Ability to occasionally work extended hours, travel out of town to return equipment and respond to emergencies on a 24-hour basis
• Possession of a valid driver's license
