Public Works Operations Manager– Public Works Department

Job Overview:

This position is responsible for performing professional and administrative work overseeing Public Works operations, including road maintenance, grounds maintenance, fleet maintenance, and solid waste operations. Duties include planning, organizing, and directing operational programs and staff; serving as the Town's Tree Warden; managing capital projects; supporting Town committees, boards, and commissions; maintaining records and files; and preparing reports. Work is performed under general supervision.

Qualifications:

Graduation from an accredited college or university with an associate's degree is desired, supplemented by considerable supervisory and public works operations (roads, grounds, fleet, and solid waste) experience. Consideration will be given to equivalent experience and training. Possession of an appropriate driver's license valid in the State of Connecticut. Possession of a CDL A or B license is preferred. Certification as a tree warden at time of appointment preferred; certification must be obtained and maintained within 6 months of appointment or at time of first available certification class, whichever occurs first. Certification as a Transfer Station Operator preferred.

Work Schedule & Location:

This position is 40 hours per week. This position observes a 5-day work week. The selected candidate will be required to perform evening, holiday, or weekend work when responding to emergencies operations.

The work location is the Public Works Complex, 240 Clover Mill Road, Mansfield, CT 06268.

Salary (7/1/2026):

Non-Union (Town Administrators) Grade 22 –$102,291.12 - $132,880.32
