Standard Job Description

The Quality Inspector is responsible for delivering comprehensive quality assurance, inspection, testing, and sustainment services supporting the SOF GLSS contract. This role oversees compliance across mechanical, structural, and electrical disciplines from induction through final delivery.

Responsibilities

1. Electrical & Avionics Systems

Inspect and verify electrical/electronic wiring harnesses, cables, fiber optics, tubing, circuit panels, and subassemblies. Verify harness routing, bend radii, clamping, and contractual clearances against engineering documentation. Conduct dimensional inspections in accordance with industry standards and company quality procedures. Inspect and verify the avionics systems are operational in accordinance with the operators manual and specified technical data.

2. Structural & Mechanical Systems

Inspect structural, hydraulic, pneumatic, mechanical, and flight-control assemblies and bench build-ups for workmanship, drawing compliance, and specifications. Verify mating, framing, skinning, fasteners and riveting operations on airframes, fuselage sections, flight-control surfaces, and rotor blades. Conduct regular and superficial hardness testing to verify heat-treatment and material properties.

3. Modification Kits & Material Verification

Audit and inventory aircraft modification kits and hardware against Bills of Material (BOMs), engineering drawings, schematics, and work packages.

4. Surface Prep, Paint & Markings

Inspect aircraft prior to, during, and after washing, chemical stripping, surface preparation, and painting. Ensure approved chemicals, primers, topcoats, and process specifications are strictly utilized. Verify external markings, and decals for accurate dimensions, placement, and materials.

5. Final Integration, Acceptance & Final Delivery

Perform progressive and comprehensive compartment-by-compartment inspections of completed aircraft for FOD, tool control, completeness, clearances, and freedom of movement. Verify final assembly, component mating, system integration, and operational checkouts through final acceptance. Assist with or conduct aircraft weight-and-balance procedures utilizing certified scale kits and automated recording systems. Identify, document, and quarantine non-conforming items; initiate Non-Conformance Reports (NCRs) and collaborate on Material Review Board dispositions. Conduct internal process audits and work-instruction compliance checks under general supervision.

Basic Qualifications

  • Quality assurance/inspection experience within aviation or aerospace environment.
  • Direct operational military experience, such as scheduled or maintenance inspections, or equivalent, in lieu of the quality experience.
  • Demonstrated ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, schematics, and technical specifications. Hand-on proficiency in executing inspection/test methodologies using standard metrology and inspection tooling (including calipers, micrometers, and multimeters).
  • Demonstrated ability to input, track, and document inspection and test results in enterprise resource planning, maintenance management systems, and/or standard computer databases (e.g., Microsoft Excel).
  • Ability to read, write, and clearly communicate technical information, and work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary production team.

Desired Skills

  • In-depth knowledge of Special Operations H-47, H-6, and H-60 aircraft systems.
  • Practical experience with Quality Management System (QMS) internal-audit processes; formal audit training preferred.
  • Ability to evaluate process compliance; write and review reports; perform root-cause analysis; and validate quality processes, responses, and plans.
  • Experience inspecting aircraft ground-handling and servicing activities; component removal and replacement; scheduled and unscheduled maintenance; aviation safety-message compliance; Modification Work Order (MWO) execution; and Time Compliance Technical Order (TCTO) execution.
  • Aircraft weight-and-balance training or certification.
  • In-depth knowledge of aircraft historical records.
  • Effective communication skills for coordination with managers and supervisors, Field Service Representatives, systems engineers, maintenance logistics support managers, and customers, including the Defense Contract Management Agency (DCMA).
  • Experience working with maintainers, instrumentation system integration engineers, and other stakeholders to resolve quality issues; conduct deficiency analysis and reporting; address customer complaints; and resolve other quality-related issues as they arise.
  • Ability to conduct incident and/or mishap investigations and audits.
  • Prepares quality documentation and reports by collecting, analyzing, and summarizing information and trends related to failed processes, recalls, corrective actions, and validation activities.
