Senior Design Engineer
Description
FloQast is at the forefront of the accounting industry, providing an AI-powered Accounting Platform founded by accountants, for accountants. Trusted by over 3,500 world-class accounting teams, including Lululemon, Doordash, and the MLB, we serve customers from fast-growing startups to global enterprises. By leveraging our AI Agents and purpose-built workflows, we empower teams to streamline their financial close, enhance compliance, and achieve a new level of transparency and accuracy. FloQast is more than a SaaS company; it is a movement to transform the accounting profession.
At FloQast, design is a driving force behind our AI-powered Accounting Platform, and we are building a world-class design organization to support our next chapter of growth. Our vision is to create human-centered tools that act as intelligent partners. These tools automate repetitive work, detect anomalies, and surface insights in real time to help accounting teams operate with clarity and precision. Product design shapes how complex data becomes intuitive, how AI becomes a trusted partner, and how everyone from the accountant to the CFO feels empowered. Come join us!
This role has a requirement of working in office 3 days per week, which may be subject to change based on team and business needs, as determined by the department leader. Please note that this requirement is subject to ongoing review and may be adjusted in the future.
*Visa sponsorship is NOT available at this time
What You'll Do:
-
Build and ship the design system in code: Partner closely with Design Systems Leads and our Platform Engineering team to own the FloUI component library, quality, architecture, documentation, visual testing, versioning, and accessibility in Storybook. Take high-impact UI patterns built across BUs and standardize them into shared, production-grade components for all of R&D. You’ll own the token pipeline in code and keep Figma variables and code in sync.
-
Bridge Global Engineering Pods: Act as the key front-end anchor and consultative partner for our Platform Engineering team as well as feature engineering pods across US West Coast and India BUs. Establish asynchronous contribution models, clear PR review guardrails, and Storybook documentation that empower global engineering teams to build with high velocity and UI consistency.
-
Architect AI-native front-end patterns: Establish design tokens, semantic UI trees, dynamic streaming interfaces, and usage rules so UI components are inspectable and operable by AI agents and generative workflows.
-
Prototype in functional code and advance tooling: Build interactive, data-connected front-end code prototypes in React and TypeScript to allow Product and Design to test complex agentic AI workflows with real users before committing full BU sprint capacity.
-
Enable designers and PM to contribute code: Establish modern front-end tooling, guardrails, and workflows that empower product designers and PM to hand-off usable/functionable FE code to engineering partners
-
Collaborate on Enterprise UX Strategy: Partner directly with Product Designers as a true UX collaborator. Bring a sharp eye for enterprise SaaS interaction design, dense data layout patterns, and human-in-the-loop AI controls to ensure our UI components are as intuitive as they are technically performant.
-
Partner on legacy code audits and discovery: Lead discovery and code audits upfront with BU leads and Platform Engineering. Map out legacy UI code deprecations so sprint planning is validated before engineering work begins.
-
Elevate quality and performance: Champion front-end craft, accessibility standards (WCAG 2.2 AA), responsive layouts, and performance optimization across data-dense tables and complex financial dashboards.
What You'll Bring:
-
Intersection of enterprise UX craft and production code: 7+ years of professional experience as a Design Engineer, UX Engineer, Design Technologist, or Front-End Engineer building and shipping complex, data-heavy B2B SaaS applications.
-
Advanced AI-assisted development workflow: Daily hands-on experience using frontier AI tools and coding assistants (Claude, Cursor, Vercel, etc.) to accelerate component development, prototype functional interfaces, and write machine-readable documentation for automated workflows.
-
Fluency in Enterprise SaaS UX: A strong foundation in UX/UI design principles, including information architecture, data-dense table UX, and workflow design for enterprise software. You actively contribute to refining the interaction model and user experience rather than just implementing specs.
-
Global Eng Partnership and 0-to-1 builder mindset: Excitement and collaborative drive to serve as a core technical partner alongside Design leadership and our Platform Engineering team establishing how we work across global teams.
-
Technical mastery of modern web tools: Advanced proficiency in React, TypeScript, HTML/CSS, Storybook, and component library architecture.
-
Design systems expertise: Demonstrated experience building, maintaining, and scaling enterprise design systems in code, with a deep understanding of design tokens, component APIs, accessibility (a11y), and versioning.
-
Experience with AI UX challenges: Familiarity with the unique front-end challenges of AI interfaces, such as handling model latency, streaming UI responses, non-deterministic states, confidence indicators, and human-in-the-loop intervention patterns.
-
Global collaboration and communication: Strong cross-functional leadership skills with experience collaborating across distributed global engineering teams to build alignment and drive adoption.
-
Growth mindset in ambiguous domains: Ability to thrive in fast-paced environments, untangle legacy UI codebases, and view complex technical constraints as creative opportunities.
