Senior React Native Engineer (iOS)
Description
About the role
We're hiring a React Native engineer to build our iOS app for iPhone and iPad, and to help shape what it looks like and how it works.
Our users run construction projects and businesses. Some are executives in the office; others are crews on a job site with gloves on, poor signal, and a few seconds to spare. Your job is to take complex construction and business workflows and turn them into screens that feel simple for both.
You won't just implement mockups. You'll help drive UI/UX decisions, prototype ideas quickly, and own the frontend from the first screen to the App Store.
What you'll do
Build the app in React Native. One codebase for iPhone and iPad. We chose React Native for speed and don't want a second frontend codebase to maintain.
Shape the product experience. Work with founders, product, and real users to rethink workflows like daily logs, approvals, RFIs, and job costing for touch and small screens.
Design for two kinds of users. Office executives who need dashboards and decisions at a glance, and field workers who need big targets, few steps, and fast input.
Build offline-first. Design local storage, data models, and background sync so the app works fully without a connection and reconciles with the server when it comes back, including conflict handling.
Make layouts adapt to any screen. Support iPhone, iPad, split view, and rotation, and build for the iPhone Duo with its dynamic screen sizes. Layouts should reflow cleanly as the screen changes.
Own quality and delivery. Performance, accessibility, testing, crash monitoring, TestFlight, and App Store releases.
Help plan for what's next. Including 3D scanning with the iPhone's built-in LiDAR sensor (see below).
What you bring
4+ years of mobile development, with at least 2 years shipping production React Native apps to the App Store.
Strong TypeScript and modern React (hooks, state management, performance tuning).
A real eye for UI/UX. You can sketch a better flow, push back on a weak one, and explain why. A portfolio or shipped apps we can try is a big plus.
Hands-on experience with offline-first apps: local databases (e.g. WatermelonDB, SQLite, Realm), sync queues, retries, and conflict resolution.
Experience building adaptive layouts for iPhone and iPad, including rotation, split view, and different size classes.
Comfort with the iOS toolchain: Xcode, CocoaPods, signing, TestFlight, and App Store review.
Ability to work across the stack boundary: designing APIs and sync contracts with backend engineers.
Ownership. You're comfortable in a small team where you make decisions and ship them.
Nice to have
Swift experience, especially writing native modules for React Native. This is a plus, not a requirement. We won't maintain a separate native frontend.
Experience with ARKit, RealityKit, or the iPhone/iPad LiDAR sensor for 3D scanning, measurement, or spatial capture. 3D scanning is a likely future feature.
Experience building for foldable or variable-size screens.
Background in construction tech, field service, or other apps used in the field.
Product design skills in Figma.
Experience with Expo, React Native's New Architecture, and performance profiling.
Why join
Real influence. You'll set the direction of the app's UX and frontend architecture from the start.
Hard, tangible problems. Offline sync, adaptive layouts across iPhone, iPad, and the iPhone Duo, and possibly 3D scanning with LiDAR.
Users you can see. Your work goes straight into the hands of the people building things, in offices and on job sites.
One codebase, fast shipping. React Native across devices, so you spend your time on product, not on keeping two frontends in sync.
