This position supports the Windows systems, network infrastructure, and related on-premises and cloud services that enable NDBC operations, data processing, and mission-essential functions. While some telework may be authorized on a case-by-case basis, regular in-office presence is required, including the ability to report outside normal business hours when hands-on resolution is necessary.

  • Participate in a rotation to provide 24x7x365 on-call support for primary IT mission-essential data processing, applications, and functions to support continuity of NDBC operations.
  • Support IT architecture improvements that maintain continuity of operations, system availability, secure communications, and the reliable flow of mission-essential data.
  • Support annual NDBC IT Assessment and Authorization (A&A) audits and work to resolve associated findings to help maintain the system’s Authority to Operate (ATO).
  • Assist with migrating on-premises Windows systems, applications, and infrastructure services to approved cloud environments, including Microsoft Azure and Amazon Web Services (AWS), as applicable.
  • Maintain and support Windows servers and client systems located on premises and, as cloud adoption progresses, in Azure and other approved cloud environments.
  • Follow system administration best practices; scan, patch, and configure systems in accordance with NOAA security requirements and applicable Security Technical Implementation Guide (STIG) requirements.
  • Upgrade operating systems before end-of-support dates and deploy updates for commercial off-the-shelf (COTS) and internally developed applications.
  • Plan and assist with cost-effective migration of local systems and services to cloud environments, including preparation, testing, troubleshooting, and post-migration validation.
  • Ensure reliable system and data backups and support backup and recovery services, including AWS S3 and other approved cloud or on-premises backup solutions as assigned.
  • Manage and maintain server certificates and support secure communications between systems and services.
  • Maintain and support Azure subscriptions and assist with administration of Azure resources, such as virtual machines, storage, networking, monitoring, and access controls, as assigned.
  • Support AWS services as assigned, including cloud storage, backup operations, identity and access controls, networking, monitoring, and integration with on-premises systems.
  • Maintain and troubleshoot network infrastructure and services that support Windows systems and cloud connectivity, including DNS, DHCP, VLANs, switching, wireless access points, wireless controllers, and network access.
  • Support network communications and data flows between on-premises systems, Microsoft Azure, AWS, and organizational applications; troubleshoot connectivity, routing, name-resolution, authentication, and integration issues.
