The Lockheed Martin Fleet Ballistic Missile (FBM) program seeks an experienced System Engineer to serve as the Network Integration Lead. This role will design, integrate, and validate real-time networking architectures for command, control, communications, and vehicle subsystems. The ideal candidate will have direct, hands-on experience with UDP, TDMA, and SpaceWire protocols within a mission-critical aerospace/defense environment, and a proven track record leading network integration from requirements through test and verification on strategic weapons systems. Travel may be required for major reviews or tests.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the specification, integration, and validation of network subsystems within FBM avionics and ground infrastructure.
  • Coordinate with multi-disciplinary teams (structures, propulsion, guidance/navigation/control, software) to ensure protocol compliance and system interoperability across flight and ground segments.
  • Develop and maintain network architecture diagrams, interface control documents (ICDs), and integration test procedures tailored to FBM program standards.
  • Troubleshoot complex protocol-layer issues across embedded flight computers, telemetry links, and shore-based testing platforms.
  • Contribute to technical reviews, readiness assessments, and proposal efforts for FBM engineering change proposals (ECPs) and system modifications.
  • Ensure compliance with applicable standards (e.g., CCSDS, SpaceWire/Ethernet hybrid specifications, MIL-STD-1553/6015, FBM program-specific interface requirements) and quality procedures.
  • Oversee integration testing, validation, and troubleshooting of network systems in simulated, lab, and operational (flight test) environments.
  • Represent the team in technical reviews, milestone decisions (e.g., CDR, PDR), and customer briefings with Navy/DoD stakeholders.
  • Mentor junior and mid-level engineers; lead communities of practice for network integration best practices in missile defense contexts.

The information below reflects the standard job description for this position

Performs technical planning, system integration, verification and validation, cost and risk, and supportability and effectiveness analyses for total systems. Analyses are performed at all levels of total system product to include: concept, design, fabrication, test, installation, operation, maintenance and disposal. Ensures the logical and systematic conversion of customer or product requirements into total systems solutions that acknowledge technical, schedule, and cost constraints. Performs functional analysis, timeline analysis, detail trade studies, requirements allocation and interface definition studies to translate customer requirements into hardware and software specifications.

Basic Qualifications

  • Extensive years of progressive experience in network engineering, systems integration, or related role within defense, aerospace, or large-scale IT infrastructure—preferably in missile defense or high-assurance network environments.
  • Direct, hands-on experience designing, integrating, or testing network systems using UDP, TDMA, and SpaceWire or similar network protocols.
  • Experience with real-time embedded systems, high-rate telemetry, or missile avionics networking.
  • Proficient in network modeling and analysis tools (e.g., Wireshark, Vector Nemo, OMNeT++, or equivalent).
  • Active Secret clearance; U.S. citizenship required and must be maintainable.
  • Familiarity with MIL-STD interfaces, CCSDS space packet protocols, or SpaceWire implementation in defense contexts.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills; ability to brief program leadership and collaborate in multi-disciplinary, cleared teams.
  • Experience with system integration lifecycle (requirements, design, verification, validation, deployment) in programmatic contexts.

Desired Skills

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or related field (Master’s preferred).
  • Experience with FBM or similar strategic missile program networking, integration, or test.
  • Professional certifications such as CCNP, JNCIE, or CISSP.
  • Experience with model-based systems engineering (MBSE) tools (e.g., Cameo, Rhapsody) and integration platforms used in BMDS/AEGIS contexts.
  • Prior work on classified or high-assurance network environments (Secret/TS).
  • Demonstrated experience with Agile/Scrum project management and concurrent engineering in weapons systems development.
  • Published technical papers or contributions to network/systems engineering bodies of knowledge related to missile defense.
  • Proficient in AI prompting as it applies to this position and practice
