Description

Standard Job Description

Performs technical planning, system integration, verification and validation, cost and risk, and supportability and effectiveness analyses for total systems. Analyses are performed at all levels of total system product to include: concept, design, fabrication, test, installation, operation, maintenance and disposal. Ensures the logical and systematic conversion of customer or product requirements into total systems solutions that acknowledge technical, schedule, and cost constraints. Performs functional analysis, timeline analysis, detail trade studies, requirements allocation and interface definition studies to translate customer requirements into hardware and software specifications. For positions that perform IT responsibilities, use E646, Systems Engr-IT.

In this role you will:

  • Perform electrical performance and integration, power modeling, channelization/electrical interconnect management, interface compatibility analysis, and manage electrical
subsystem designs to ensure compliance with the spacecraft level technical baseline, maintaining end-to-end compatibility, functional allocations, and margins
  • Perform verification and validation flow for key system level electrical requirements
  • Perform risk mitigation activities for complex interfaces to ensure a smooth integration at the system level
  • Collaborate with and support Flight Software, Integration & Test (I&T), and subsystem RSEs during assembly, integration, test phases, and launch of the space vehicle, including leading or supporting anomaly investigations as appropriate
  • Analyze and troubleshoot spacecraft design, command and control, and mission data processing
  • Foster communication and coordinate technical changes between subsystems including EPS, C&DH, Propulsion, Mechanical, Thermal, GN&C, Mechanisms, Communications, Software, and Payloads
  • Support Subsystem Certified Principal Engineers (CPEs) and the Space Vehicle CPE, the technical advocate for the satellite throughout its lifecycle, from requirements definition through mission operations; the CPE verifies that the satellite aligns with both Command Media and program technical requirements, and resists inappropriate compromise and risk, checks programmatic decisions, and balances technical
performance, cost, schedule, and risk, while ensuring mission success

Basic Qualifications

  • Bachelors degree in Engineering, Math, Physics or other related field or equivalent combination of education and work experience
  • Experience coordinating with multiple engineering functions (Mechanical, Electrical, Systems, Flight Sciences, Materials, Manufacturing, Test, etc.)
  • Space segment design and/or test experience
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, strong social skills, and ability to build consensus among peers while building solid relationships with team members
  • Willingness to travel for launch campaigns
  • U.S. Citizenship with the ability to obtain and maintain a DoD Secret security clearance

Desired Skills

  • Electrical Systems Engineering (ESE) and integration experience
  • Experience with telemetry systems, flight operations, and/or electrical design
  • 9+ years' engineering experience
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, synergetic team environment
  • Demonstrated behaviors of a systems thinker with the ability to select and apply appropriate systems thinking skills to solve problems and implement constructive change
  • Integrating flight software and databases
  • Creating/modifying system design artifacts per the requirements baseline
  • Technical understanding of the assigned product, accepting responsibility and accountability, and exercising authority including stopping production, test, or a launch
  • A problem-solver with strong skills in decision-making (related to cost, schedule, technical and risk), and closure (dedication to close open items/issues) to ensure mission success
  • Good facilitator and able to lead resolution of issues
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively communicate complex design information, technical decisions and issues to both highly technical and non-technical reviewers.
  • Ability to analyze data from spacecraft subsystem providers (e.g. bus, payload) and demonstrate compatibility, assess requirements compliance, identify and resolve risks, and implement opportunities for improved solutions vs. system requirements
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, strong social skills, and ability to build consensus among peers while building solid relationships with team members, leadership, and customers
  • Relevant Masters Degree or Graduate Certificate
  • DoD Secret security clearance
