Technical Business Analyst
Description
Do you enjoy solving technical problems, turning data into useful answers and making business applications work better for the people who use them?
We are looking for a hands-on technical generalist who combines strong SQL skills with curiosity, sound judgement, good communication skills, and a practical approach to application support.
Gard is a marine insurer. In the Applications team within Gard’s Technology organisation, you will work closely with business users, IT colleagues and external suppliers. Your initial focus will be M-Files technical support, creating and maintaining custom reports, and user support and administration of our insurance system. Over time, you can take responsibility for other applications and help shape how they develop.
Key responsibilities
- Provide technical support for M-Files, our document management system. Investigate issues, document solutions and work with users, colleagues and the supplier to resolve problems.
- Manage access to, and retrieval of, documents from legacy document management systems, helping colleagues locate historical information when needed.
- Prepare and maintain manual and ad hoc reports from our insurance system. Clarify needs with business users, validate results and document report logic and outputs.
- Work with the team on administration of our insurance system, including configuration, access, support and releases, working with colleagues and the system vendor.
- Improve recurring reporting and support tasks, using automation where appropriate. Build clear documentation and share knowledge so that solutions remain maintainable.
- Take on future service owner or product owner responsibility for other applications: understand business needs, agree priorities, coordinate suppliers and changes, and follow the application through its lifecycle.
Key competencies
You have practical experience writing SQL queries and can check whether results make business sense. You are comfortable investigating application issues, working with relational data and explaining technical findings clearly. You can turn a user’s question into a well-defined task and document what you have done. Clear written and spoken English is essential. You are motivated to learn how our core business processes work and how our applications support them.
Experience with M-Files and insurance or finance in general is an advantage, not a requirement. Application ownership, vendor management, release coordination, monitoring, and scripting or automation are also useful. We do not expect expertise in every area: the ability and motivation to learn unfamiliar systems matter more. This is an application-focused role, not a full-time developer or database administrator position.
Personal skills
You are curious, approachable and methodical. You enjoy a varied working day and take ownership of problems while knowing when to involve others. You balance responsive support with longer-term improvements, keep users informed and follow tasks through. Above all, you want to understand how technology supports the business and make everyday work easier for colleagues.
What we offer
- Strong pension and insurance benefits
- The stability of a long-term, highly respected employer
- A collaborative, in-house environment where technology is central to the business
- A strong focus on work-life balance and sustainable ways of working
- Access to company cabins and apartments, plus support for workout and health initiatives
- An open and social culture with regular Gard events and knowledge sharing
- Excellent opportunities for professional growth, learning, and international collaboration
