Director/ Sr. Director, Advanced Power Solutions
Description
What You Need
- Experience. 10+ years of progressive enterprise sales, strategic account, or business-development experience in data centers, critical power, energy infrastructure, BESS, microgrids, electrical equipment, or adjacent mission-critical systems.
- Hyperscaler track record. At least 5 years of direct, quota-carrying experience selling to hyperscale customers, with demonstrable knowledge of their engineering, procurement, qualification, security, contracting, and deployment processes.
- Customer coverage. Established executive and technical relationships across multiple AIDC customer types, including hyperscalers and at least two of the following: neoclouds, AI labs/platforms, cloud service providers, colocation operators, ISPs/carriers, data-center developers, or large enterprise operators.
- Hundreds-of-millions achievement. A verifiable record of personally originating, leading, and closing—or playing the decisive commercial role in—cumulative booked revenue in the hundreds of millions of U.S. dollars (normally US$200 million+), including multiple complex, multi-year transactions.
- Technical credibility. Working fluency in data-center electrical infrastructure and power economics, including load profiles, redundancy, power quality, availability, utility interconnection, medium-voltage distribution, UPS/backup architecture, generation, BESS, power conversion, controls, commissioning, and relevant safety considerations.
- Solution-selling mastery. Proven success navigating long, competitive sales cycles and complex buying committees while converting technical value into quantified customer outcomes such as faster energization, reduced downtime risk, improved resilience, lower total cost, and enhanced sustainability.
- Commercial judgment. Demonstrated skill in pricing, margin management, contract negotiation, performance and warranty terms, risk allocation, supply commitments, and executive-level investment cases.
- Leadership. Ability to lead without relying on hierarchy, align global and regional teams, communicate clearly with boards and engineers, and perform effectively in a high-growth, matrixed environment.
- Education and mobility. Bachelor’s degree in engineering, energy systems, business, or a related field, or equivalent experience; willingness to travel approximately 30–50% and support global customer engagements across time zones.
What is "Nice to Have"?
- Direct sales experience with BESS, battery systems, microgrids, UPS, power conversion, distributed energy resources, or integrated critical-power solutions for data centers.
- Experience securing design wins, approved-vendor status, master supply agreements, strategic framework agreements, or multi-site deployment programs with Tier 1 customers.
- A record of opening new strategic accounts and building a market or commercial function from an early stage.
- Familiarity with standards and requirements commonly relevant to energy storage and data-center power, such as UL, IEC, NFPA, IEEE, NEC, fire/life-safety, cybersecurity, and commissioning practices.
- Master’s degree or MBA; international sales experience and cross-cultural negotiation capability.
What Success Looks Like
- First 90 days. Validate target segments, prioritize named accounts, establish an executive relationship map, qualify the existing pipeline, define partner coverage, and align an AIDC value proposition and pursuit cadence with internal stakeholders.
- Within 12 months. Create credible strategic-account footholds; build qualified pipeline coverage appropriate to the annual target; secure customer technical evaluations, design engagements, approved-vendor pathways, and initial commercial wins; deliver reliable forecasts and clear product feedback.
- Within 24 months. Convert anchor relationships into repeatable, multi-site programs; deliver material bookings and revenue at target margin; establish AESC as a trusted AIDC power partner; and scale a disciplined commercial organization around the proven model.
Core Performance Measures
- Bookings, recognized revenue, gross margin, cash and payment quality, and strategic-account penetration.
- Qualified pipeline value, stage conversion, win rate, sales-cycle velocity, forecast accuracy, and multi-year coverage.
- Number and quality of executive relationships, technical design engagements, approved-vendor milestones, framework agreements, and referenceable customers.
- Deal quality, including risk-adjusted economics, contractual protections, delivery feasibility, customer concentration, and expansion potential.
- Effectiveness of cross-functional leadership and the quality of market intelligence translated into product and operating decisions.
Candidate Evidence Expected
Finalists should be prepared to substantiate their commercial record while respecting prior-employer confidentiality. Evidence may include:
- A deal sheet showing customer type, solution, candidate role, contract value, revenue/bookings recognized, sales-cycle length, competitive context, and outcome.
- Two or three examples of complex hyperscaler pursuits, including how the candidate navigated engineering, procurement, finance, legal, operations, and executive stakeholders.
- A relationship and ecosystem map demonstrating current access across target customers and relevant EPC, utility, developer, consultant, OEM, and integrator partners.
- Examples of forecast discipline, commercial problem solving, contract negotiation, and cross-functional leadership under material delivery or risk constraints.
Leadership Attributes
- Customer-obsessed and technically curious; equally credible in an executive meeting and an engineering workshop.
- A disciplined hunter who creates opportunities, not merely manages inbound demand.
- Commercially rigorous, transparent about risk, and protective of long-term customer and shareholder value.
- Collaborative, low-ego, globally minded, and decisive in ambiguous, fast-moving situations.
- Committed to safety, quality, integrity, sustainability, and operational excellence.
