Standard Job Description
Description
This internship offers structured, hands-on exposure to the electrical system integration test lifecycle within the Sustainment Electrical Team. The intern will engage primarily through test preparation, observation, data support, and guided assistance, building foundational experience in sustainment electrical engineering while working under the mentorship of certified test conductors. The role is designed to develop practical skills in test planning, instrumentation, data documentation, and cross-functional collaboration within a sustainment context.
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare and verify test setup components per certified conductor checklist.
- Shadow test executions, actively noting parameters, sequences, and any observed anomalies.
- Log measurements and data points using prescribed forms or digital tools, under conductor guidance.
- Assist with post-test data organization, preliminary trending, and preparation of summary observations.
- Support equipment teardown, calibration checks, and storage procedures as directed.
- Contribute to team meetings by sharing observational insights and asking informed questions.
- Maintain a clean, safe work area and adhere to all posted test area protocols.
What You’ll Gain
- Practical insight into how electrical systems are verified and maintained throughout their sustainment lifecycle.
- Direct experience with industry-standard test procedures, instrumentation, and documentation practices.
- Professional network within LM electrical engineering and sustainment team.
- Enhanced problem-solving and technical communication skills in a real-world engineering environment.
Basic Qualifications
- Currently enrolled in a Bachelor’s program in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Systems Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Software Engineering or a related technical discipline
- Foundational coursework or curiosity in electrical circuits, instrumentation, or test & evaluation methods
- U.S. citizenship
- Strong written and verbal communication skills; able to clearly document observations and follow procedural steps
- Commitment to a 12–16 week engagement with hours coordinated around academic schedule
Desired Skills
- Hands-on or classroom experience with test equipment (oscilloscopes, power supplies, multimeters, data acquisition hardware)
- Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics, block diagrams, or wiring lists
- Familiarity with test documentation standards or lifecycle sustainment processes is a plus
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel for data organization, PowerPoint for briefings)
- Exposure to version control, test management, or data logging tools
- Analytical mindset with attention to detail; comfortable organizing and summarizing numerical data
- Prior co-op, lab, or volunteer experience in electrical test, prototype integration, or sustainment environments
- Basic scripting or automation interest (Python/MATLAB/C++) for data cleaning or trend plotting
- Experience with Linux
- Minimum 3.0 GPA (or institutionally equivalent)
